Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Therapy
Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD) often reveals itself in jaw or facial pain accompanied by headaches and stiffness, and is most often caused by some form of trauma to the jaw. This trauma may come from stress, poor occlusion, missing teeth, poor posture, arthritis or even subtle clenching or grinding of the teeth.
With symptoms common to many other disorders, TMD is often difficult to diagnose and treat. At Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital, TMD is one of our specialties. We design TMD treatment to reduce dysfunction and maximize healing of the jaw joint while simultaneously regaining a stable jaw position and improving pain-free function.
Treatment options might include:
- Anti-inflammatory therapy
- Joint mobilization
- Postural training
- Therapeutic exercises
