Stroke Services
The third leading cause of death for women in the United States, a stroke occurs when the blood to part of your brain is interrupted or severely reduced. As your brain tissue is deprived of blood and oxygen, brain cells begin to die within minutes. That’s why immediate medical treatment for a stroke is critical to minimize brain damage and complications.
Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital’s new Wood-Prince Family Stroke Center enables us to enhance our existing stroke care and advance the emergency care we provide to residents of Lake County.
As a Certified Primary Stroke Center, Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital is one of the few state-recognized emergency departments in the area that can accept ambulances with stroke patients. Because of our new technology and rigorous staff training, we are uniquely equipped to stabilize and treat anyone with stroke symptoms.
With a strong foundation in Emergency Medicine, our Stroke Center takes advantage of the superb resources that have already been in place at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital for years:
- Robust Emergency Medical Services (EMS) presence
- Highly trained Emergency Room physicians and staff
- Radiologic support from Diagnostic Imaging
- Skilled neurologists and neurosurgeons
- Capable critical care teams
The new Stroke Center unites these medical personnel with a coordinated, team approach—so that you or a family member receive the best, most appropriate and most efficient care in the event of a stroke.
