Pulmonology (Lung)

For people suffering from lung disease, life can become increasingly difficult due to fatigue and shortness of breath. Without sufficient oxygen, our bodies are unable to perform everyday activities normally, which can result in deteriorated muscle function and a sedentary lifestyle.

The board-certified pulmonologists at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital are specially trained in diseases and conditions of the respiratory system, including the chest and lungs. They diagnose and treat patients with a full range of acute and chronic pulmonology disorders, including:

  • Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
  • Asthma
  • Chest infections
  • Chronic bronchitis or cough
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Emphysema
  • Interstitial lung disease
  • Lung cancer
  • Pneumonia
  • Pulmonary fibrosis

Pulmonologists use diagnostic tests and examinations of the chest, heart and lungs to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning. These examinations may include chest X-rays, CT or PET scans, bronchoscopy, oximetry or Pulmonary Stress Test. During the process, our team focuses on education and rehabilitation to help control the symptoms that negatively affect your health and quality of life.

Treatments may include medication, asthma education and management, bronchoscopy, mechanical or non-invasive ventilation, exercise or pulmonary function testing and smoking cessation. Our renowned Pulmonary Rehabilitation program can also help you control symptoms, improve daily living and increase independence through exercise training and education from a multidisciplinary team.

Our physicians pride themselves on providing exceptional care in a caring and comfortable environment. In addition to outpatient services, they also provide inpatient consultation in the Critical Care Unit of the hospital. We also have pediatric pulmonologists on staff.
