Family Practice Physician Joins Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group
Lake Forest, Ill. – Family practice physician Alison Holloway, MD, has joined the staff of Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group. Holloway has practiced in Grayslake at the Grayslake Family Health Center and as a physician at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital for seven years.
“Dr. Holloway is a well-known and respected family practice physician in Grayslake, and we are delighted to add her to the Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group,” said Michael G. Ankin, MD, FACP, FCCP, a pulmonologist at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital and the hospital’s vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer.
A graduate of Lake Forest High School, Holloway received a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from the University of Illinois in 1987, and received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in 1991. Board certified in family medicine, she completed an internship in obstetrics and gynecology from Southern Illinois University in 1992 and a residency in family medicine from Medical College of Wisconsin in Racine in 1999.
Holloway served four years active duty as a navy physician. She was a general medical officer in the U.S. Navy in Beaufort, SC from 1992 to 1993 and in Okinawa, Japan, from 1993 to 1996. During her time in Japan, she was an attending physician in the emergency department of the U.S. Naval Hospital in Okinawa and served as medical director of the Alcohol Rehabilitation Department. Holloway also served as a physician at the U.S. Marine Corps Camp Butler and the U.S. Marine Corps Depot Paris Island.
Holloway was an assistant clinical professor of family medicine at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago from 1999 to 2005. During that time she taught courses on clinical medicine, preventive medicine and family medicine, as well as general ambulatory and inpatient care.
As a family practice physician, Holloway provides primary care and general medicine to patients of all ages, with a special interest in providing primary and preventive care to members of the Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) community in Lake County. Holloway is also experienced in providing outpatient primary mental health services, including treating depression and anxiety.
“I am excited to join the network of Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group and to bring the clinical excellence of Northwestern Medicine to my patients in Grayslake,” said Dr. Holloway. “As a family practice physician, I often treat several generations of the same family—children, parents and grandparents—which offers me the opportunity to really know my patients and understand what factors are contributing to their health, as well as those that trigger illness or injury. My goal is always to treat the whole person and to guide them toward a healthier life.”
