Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital earns prestigious distinction
Magnet recognition honors outstanding care, positive outcomes
Lake Forest, Ill. – Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital announced today that it has earned Magnet Recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). According to the ANCC, the Magnet Recognition Program gives its honor to hospitals that demonstrate quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice. This is the highest honor that can be bestowed on a hospital staff. Only six percent of hospitals across the country, and fewer than 400 hospitals worldwide, have achieved this distinction.
“ANCC Magnet Recognition is considered the gold standard, the most prestigious international distinction a hospital can receive for nursing excellence and outstanding patient care, “said Thomas J. McAfee, President of Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital. “This honor is a testament to the outstanding work our caregivers perform each and every day. I cannot imagine a staff who is more worthy of this achievement.”
“This is a monumental day for our patient care team,” said Kimberly Nagy, RN, MSN, NEA-BC, Vice President and Chief Nursing Executive at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital. “It validates the countless stories we hear from community members about their wonderful experiences with our staff.”
To be considered for Magnet Recognition, the hospital underwent a rigorous evaluation. Nagy spearheaded the process and led a hospital-wide Magnet team to prepare the necessary programs and the hospital’s application. The process culminated with a three-day, intensive visit from the Magnet staff in October.
The designation is meaningful not only for the nursing staff, but for all hospital physicians and employees and the community served by Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital.
“This is a gold star for the hospital,” Nagy said. “Magnet Recognition will help us attract and retain the highest quality nurses, physicians and staff and will give our patients the utmost confidence in the care they receive. This is great news for the community we call home.”
