Women’s Auxiliary Board of Lake Forest Hospital awards $31,000 in academic scholarships

Lake Forest, Ill. – The Lake Forest Hospital Women’s Auxiliary Board recently granted its annual academic health care scholarships to 24 students who are pursuing health care-related education.

Each year, the Board selects winners on the basis of criteria such as outstanding academic achievement and exceptional promise in the field of health care. A number of this year’s scholarships were awarded to Lake Forest Hospital nurses who are continuing their education.

The Board awarded a $5,000 Marion Warner Hodgkins Scholarship, along with 23 A.B. Dick Jr. scholarships, ranging from $500 to $3,000 each. The scholarships are supported through the fundraising efforts of the Women’s Board.

Jimmy Cheon of Lake Forest won this year’s Marion Warner Hodgkins Scholarship. Cheon is a graduate of Lake Forest High School and of Northwestern University, where he received numerous academic honors. He recently completed his second year of Medical School at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Throughout high school, college and medical school, Cheon has provided medical research and services to the needy. He volunteered at a VA Hospital and worked for the Chicago Urban Project. During the past year, he worked with a family of Iraqi refugees and supervised their medical care.

The $5,000 Marion Warner Hodgkins Scholarship is named for the first president of Lake Forest Hospital’s Women’s Auxiliary Board, who volunteered at the hospital for more than 50 years. A.B. Dick Jr. was an active chairman of the Board of Directors; his family donated the land for Lake Forest Hospital.
