Cardiovascular
When coronary artery disease strikes, the arteries narrow and the heart receives less blood. This can lead to symptoms resulting in a heart attack. At Lake Forest Hospital our cardiovascular specialists can open these blockages and restore healthy blood flow to the heart. In addition, our Vascular Surgeons and Interventional Radiologists can treat blockages in the head, torso and limbs using state-of-the-art equipment in our new Cardiac Catheterization Lab.
Atherosclerosis, the “silent killer,” can develop over decades and go completely unnoticed until a crisis. Lake Forest Hospital was the first in Illinois to install a dual-source CT scanner to detect artery blockages in the entire body with extreme accuracy. This is performed non-invasively and using less time and medication thus reducing the risks to patients.
A Lake Forest Hospital Interventional Neuroradiologist also performed the first “coil” procedure in Lake County to treat a brain aneurysm eliminating the need for major brain surgery.
We are committed to the prevention and education of cardiovascular disease in our community, offering a vascular screening and education program, Vascular Health Screening (formerly Dare to C.A.R.E.), to improve early detection of vascular disease with screenings for carotid artery disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm and peripheral artery disease. We support healthy lifestyle choices through our Wellness 180° and cardiac rehabilitation programs. Our nutritional counseling and exercise programs at the Lake Forest Health and Fitness Centers round out our holistic approach to cardiovascular health.
Our popular Vascular Health Screening (formerly Dare to C.A.R.E.) is for adults over age 60 or over 50 with risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, smoking, abnormal cholesterol, family history heart attack or stroke.
We screen individuals for risk factors, carotid artery disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm and peripheral artery disease.
This two-night event includes:
- Night 1: 6:30 to 8:00pm. Educational dinner seminar led by physicians specializing in prevention, early detection and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
- Night 2: by appointment. Attendees return at an assigned time for their testing, screening ultrasound and to meet with a vascular physician to review results.
The next Vascular Health Screening is November 18-19. The fee is $40. Space is limited, and no walk-ins are accepted.
