Gastroenterology (Stomach)

Lake Forest Hospital gastroenterologists provide the diagnoses and treatment for gastrointestinal diseases, such as Crohns Disease, inflammatory bowel syndrome, acid reflux disease, Barrett’s esophagus, diverticulitis, gallstones, cancers of the digestive system including early detection and removal of precancerous colon polyps, esophageal cancer, and other conditions related to the digestive system. To guide diagnosis, Lake Forest Hospital’s board-certified gastroenterologists use minimally invasive procedures, such as endoscopy and colonoscopy, to gather accurate images of the digestive tract. The group also uses state-of-the-art Pill Camera Enteroscopy to evaluate the small intestine—an area previously unreachable by normal endoscopic evaluation.  With this technology, the patient swallows a pill-sized camera that takes hundreds of images as it travels through the entire digestive tract.

Treatment of GI conditions can range from medication to control symptoms to endoscopic removal of precancerous lesions, as well as endoscopic removal of stones in the common bile duct of gallbladder patients. Where appropriate, we employ the use of traditional surgery as well.
