2013 Relay for Life of Lake Forest/Lake Bluff

Get involved in the fight against cancer through the American Cancer Society's premier event that brings the community together. Remember those lost to cancer and celebrate the lives of those who have survived.

If you or anyone you know has been impacted by cancer, please join us for this special event held at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital. Wellness 180°™ is the nationally award-winning, multidisciplinary exercise program offered at Lake Forest Health & Fitness Center in conjunction with Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital. Work with a team of professionals who will motivate, encourage and support you to make the turn towards better health. By making small lifestyle changes, you will experience one or more of the following:

Pre and Postnatal Fitness Classes

Before and after having a child, moms can get their workouts in, too! With a variety of classes for moms alone or with babies, you can choose your workout based on your preferred activity and comfort level.

A physician’s approval is required before beginning any pre or postnatal class. Fees are $150 for 10 classes, $90 for five classes or $20 for a drop-in class. More details are available at lakeforesthfc.com.

Wellness 180° Lite

Need to lose between five and 20 pounds? In this modified version of our nationally recognized Wellness 180°™ program, participants will work hand in hand with both certified personal trainers and registered dietitians who will teach you about healthy foods, guide you through fitness routines and enable you to continue your fitness goals long after the program has ended.

Each class has six to 12 people and is an ongoing 10-week program. The cost is $400 for members and $500 for non-members. More details are available at lakeforesthfc.com.

Therapeutic Yoga for Arthritis

Enjoy a better quality of life by improving function and managing pain. Our instructor, Fiona Ricci McCarthy, attended the renowned Duke University Integrative Medicine Professional Training Program. This eight-week program is the first of its kind in the United States that specifically targets arthritis.

Survive Strong

Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital's Rehabilitative Services have partnered with Lake Forest Health & Fitness Center to offer a cancer-related fatigue program, Survive Strong.

Through multiple research studies, evidence shows that low to moderate exercise in oncology patients can reduce and even prevent cancer-related fatigue, reduce side effects of chemotherapy and radiation, improve quality of life and possibly even improve survival rates.

This program is designed for individuals diagnosed with any stage of cancer who are experiencing fatigue or weakness, or are unsure how to initiate exercise. It is appropriate for anyone currently undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy, or who has completed cancer treatment within the past year.

A physician's referral is required and scholarships are available for program participants.

The Survive Strong program at Lake Forest Health & Fitness Center runs for eight weeks and consists of two weekly exercise sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Please contact Emily Chrisman at echrisman@lfh.org or 847.535.7718 for more information.
