Obstetrician/gynecologist Micah Garb, MD, and gynecologic oncologist Alok Pant, MD, offer expertise to female patients

Dr. Micah Garb specializes in using the minimally invasive DaVinci Robotic System to treat benign gynecologic conditions, including:

  • Uterine fibroids
  • Endometriosis
  • Abnormal Pap smears
  • Colposcopy
  • Minimally invasive alternatives to hysterectomy
  • Various conditions complicating normal pregnancies

Micah Garb, MD

Garb received his undergraduate degree in biology and philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in gynecology and obstetrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.

Prior to joining Northwestern Medical Group, Garb was in private practice since 2004 with Lake Shore Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American Medical Association and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopy. He is the recipient of several honors and awards, including the Michael Newton, MD Memorial Award in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, which is awarded annually to the resident who best combines clinical excellence with concern for social and emotional needs of the patient.

Gynecologic oncologist and surgeon Alok Pant, MD, recently joined the staff of Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital, bringing his expertise in the DaVinci Robotic System to the hospital’s surgical oncology program.

Dr. Pant uses the minimally invasive DaVinci Robotic System to treat both cancer patients and those with benign conditions, including:

  • Cervical cancer
  • Endometrial cancer
  • Endometriosis
  • Ovarian cancer
  • Pelvic masses
  • Pre-invasive diseases
  • Uterine fibroids

“My goal is to bring the expertise of Northwestern’s academic research and care for women with gynecologic cancers to Lake County and the surrounding areas,” said Dr. Pant.
 

“There are significant benefits to patients with the use of the DaVinci Robotic System because it is less invasive and decreases recovery time from surgery. I’m excited to use the DaVinci System at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital.”
 

Pant will see patients and administer chemotherapy treatment at Northwestern Lake Forest’s Hunter Family Center for Women's Health and at Northwestern Grayslake. All surgeries are performed at Northwestern Lake Forest.

Alok Pant, MD

Dr. Pant is an award-winning gynecologic oncology researcher and teacher. He has published his work in several peer-reviewed publications such as Cancer Research, Journal of Chemotherapy and Journal of Gynecological Surgery. He has also presented his work in collaboration with other Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine physicians to the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists Annual Meeting on Women’s Cancer and to the American Society of Clinical Oncologists, among others.

Dr. Pant has been awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award at Johns Hopkins Gynecology/Obstetrics Residency Program in 2008, 2009 and 2010, the Excellence in Laparoscopic Surgery Award at Johns Hopkins Gynecology/Obstetrics Residency Program in 2009 and the Excellence in Teaching Award at Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s Obstetrics/Gynecology Department in 2011 and 2012.
