Cancer (Oncology)
While some adult cancers occur as a result of exposure to certain risk factors, like smoking, childhood cancers do not and therefore cannot be avoided. Researchers at the National Cancer Institute, the American Cancer Society and other experts are uncertain as to what causes childhood cancer to occur. However, research has revealed that major advancements in treatment over the past several decades have contributed to the substantial rise in childhood cancer survivorship. The most common forms of childhood cancer are leukemia, brain and nervous system cancer, neuroblastoma and Hodgkins Disease.
If your child receives a cancer diagnosis, you will want the best medical team, the best treatment and the best possible care for your child. Being close to home is also important. Through our partnership with Children’s Memorial Hospital, Lake Forest Hospital is able to bring to the surrounding community access to expert care and resources in the fight against childhood cancer.
Through a combination of treatment based on the type and stage of your child’s cancer and via a coordinated, integrated approach, we ensure that your child’s physical, emotional and spiritual needs are met—and that every effort is made to eradicate the cancer. For cancer patients, Lake Forest Hospital offers intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). IMRT delivers radiation therapy by sculpting the dose to conform to the unique shape of the tumor, maximizing the impact of therapy while diminishing its effect on adjacent healthy tissues and organs.
We offer a variety of appointment times to best fit our patient's busy schedules. Please call to determine the best appointment time for you.
