Center for Pain Treatment & Rehabilitation
In 1978, nationally recognized neurosurgeon Dr. Ronald Pawl founded the Pain Treatment Center (which later became the Center for Pain Treatment & Rehabilitation) at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital.
Thanks to the center's outstanding interdisciplinary team that includes physicians, RNs, psychologists, physical and occupational therapists, a dietitian and chaplain, chronic pain sufferers find real answers and a return to active, productive and enjoyable lives.
In addition to personalized treatment programs listed below, the Center offers a unique chronic pain management program called PRIDE (Progressive Resistance Intensive Daily Exercise). PRIDE is an intensive 3- to 5-week outpatient treatment program for persons having difficulty managing daily living and/or work activities that treats the whole person and facilitates physical and emotional well-being.
The Center for Pain Treatment & Rehabilitation offers real treatment options to those who seek improved pain management, including:
- Biofeedback
- Comprehensive, interdisciplinary evaluations
- Medical acupuncture, which stimulates the body's natural healing abilities
- Relaxation techniques
- Stress management and coping strategies
- Therapeutic exercises
