About Us

Women's Auxiliary Board

The mission of the Women’s Auxiliary Board of Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital is to support the hospital through fundraising, volunteerism, education and advocacy. Our activities seek to enhance the facilities and services of the hospital, helping to ensure that the highest quality of health care is available.

The Women’s Auxiliary Board of Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital dates back to 1942, when the hospital opened in its present location. The board is comprised of 100 talented and committed women who raise an average of $500,000 each year to benefit the hospital.  They also volunteer in nearly all hospital departments and contribute 6,000 hours of service to Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital annually.

The Women’s Board held the first Baby Alumni Party in 1948 for children born at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital, their parents and siblings, in celebration and in appreciation to the community. The Board awards funds annually through the A.B. Dick Health Careers Scholarship Program, established in 1952, and the Marion Warner Hodgkins Scholarship, established in 1983, in honor of the Board’s founder and first president. These scholarships are awarded to students and professionals who are pursuing or furthering their education in health care, and who show outstanding academic achievement and exceptional promise in the field.

Fundraising continues to be an important and successful aspect of the Women’s Board’s role at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital. It includes an annual community-wide benefit, a holiday boutique and the sale of specially designed holiday cards. Since its founding, the Women’s Board has contributed nearly $5,000,000 to Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital.
